The City of Port Colborne is developing a multi-year strategy to outline the future direction of the tourism industry in Port Colborne. A strategy framework is needed to define the role that the municipality can play in leveraging the economic and social benefits of tourism for the whole community. For an emerging destination like Port Colborne, actions must be taken to sustainably develop tourism that is cohesive and partnership-based, designed to enhance the city’s image and competitiveness as a visitor destination, grow visitation and yield, and meet visitor expectations. These are just some of the outcomes that will guide the municipality in maximizing Port Colborne’s tourism potential over the next five years and beyond.
The last assessment of Port Colborne’s tourism industry took place in 2003 through the “Vision 20/20: Community-Based Tourism Strategy.” Two decades later and it is time for an update. The City will be developing the new tourism strategy in-house, and it is scheduled for presentation to Council in March 2024. This document will be the result of comprehensive research, community and stakeholder engagement, and collaboration.
